Momentum Statement on the Spending Review
Momentum Co-Chairs said:
“Extra spending on the NHS and housing is a necessary step, but doesn’t go nearly far enough. Millions will continue to bear the brunt of austerity unless the Government invests heavily in our public services and drops planned welfare cuts.
Already we’ve seen a U-turn on Winter Fuel Payments, which wouldn’t have happened without pressure from socialist MPs, but the Chancellor is still determined to stick to arbitrary fiscal rules. This is not only unnecessary, but also unpopular with a majority of Labour members and voters.
The Government must now go much further by taxing wealth and offering a bold, transformative vision for Britain.”
