Women’s Consultation Event in Leeds
Women’s representation has improved significantly in the Labour Party in recent decades, with major improvements in the number of elected female MPs following the introduction of All Women Shortlists in the 1990s. However, women continue to be politically disempowered within the party, and many many ways have lost collective representation since moves to gut the Women’s Conference of meaningful power in the 1990s. To address this, Momentum has made the following proposals to the Democracy Review to improve women’s representation in the party.
As part of the Democracy Review, the Labour Party is holding a consultation for women at the Queen’s Hotel, Leeds, LS1 1PJ from noon to 4pm on Sunday 1 July. On the basis of the consultation, the Democracy Review will report to the National Executive Committee this summer and any rule changes coming out of the Review will go to Annual Conference later this year, so this is a great opportunity to have your say.
